How to Prepare for Your First Video Shoot: A Client Checklist

So you booked your first professional video shoot.
👏🏽 First off — congratulations! You’re investing in your brand, your story, and your visibility.

Now you’re wondering...
What do I need to do to get ready?
The good news? You don’t have to figure it out alone. At VICA, we walk with you every step of the way — and it all starts with knowing what to expect and how to show up fully prepared.

Here’s your go-to checklist to help you feel confident, clear, and camera-ready.

1. Clarify Your Message

Before the cameras roll, ask yourself:

  • What’s the goal of this video?

  • Who is it for?

  • What do I want viewers to feel or do after watching it?

Even if we’re handling scripting, having clarity on your message ensures the final cut aligns with your vision. If you're unsure — don’t stress. We’ll help you shape it.

2. Choose Your Outfits Wisely

Your wardrobe speaks before you do. Choose outfits that:

  • Match your brand colors or vibe

  • Avoid busy patterns or logos (unless it’s your own)

  • Make you feel confident and comfortable

Bonus tip: Bring 2–3 outfit options if we’re filming multiple looks. And don’t forget to iron or steam — the camera catches everything.

3. Prep Your Space (If We're Filming On-Site)

If we’re shooting at your business, office, or home:

  • Declutter the background

  • Open windows for natural light if possible

  • Hide cords, trash bins, or anything distracting

  • Add a personal touch (plants, books, brand products)

We’ll still adjust lighting and angles — but a clean space gives us a strong starting point.

4. Practice, But Don’t Memorize

If you’re speaking on camera:

  • Know your bullet points

  • Practice saying things in your own words

  • Don’t aim for perfection — aim for presence

We’re not looking for Oscar-worthy line delivery. We’re looking for you, being real and connecting.

5. Hydrate and Rest the Night Before

It may sound simple, but it’s powerful:

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Get solid rest

  • Avoid salty foods and alcohol the night before (trust us)

  • Bring lip balm or moisturizer if needed

Feeling good physically helps you shine on camera — and it shows in your energy, voice, and focus.

6. Bring Props or Products

Are we featuring something you sell or offer? Make sure to have:

  • Your best product samples

  • Branded packaging or tools

  • Anything you want to showcase or demonstrate

We’ll film B-roll that adds richness and relevance to your story.

7. Trust the Process

This one’s big: once the shoot starts, let go and flow.

We’ll guide you through every scene, pose, and take. You don’t have to “know what to do.” You just have to show up and be open.

We’ll take care of the rest.

Closing Thought

Your first video shoot is more than a content day — it’s a celebration of your brand stepping into its next level.

Whether we’re filming a promo, a profile, or a full campaign — your preparation makes it powerful.

So take a deep breath.
You’ve already done the hard part: saying yes to being seen.

Let’s make sure the world sees the very best of you.
